About the Instructor/Author

Dr. JoAnn Yaworski-Usher teaches Developmental Reading, Study Skills, and teacher education classes in the Department of Literacy at West Chester University, in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania. She has been teaching reading, study skills, and other academic disciplines including History, World Cultures, English, and the Russian Language for public and private high schools, colleges, and universities for over 27 years.

JoAnn is author of AbLongman's college reading series "Getting Ahead: Fundamentals of College Reading" and "Reading Between the Lines: Advanced College Reading." She is also the original content provider for over twelve web-sites companions to best-selling AbLongman reading and study skills textbooks.

JoAnn received her Ph.D. in Reading and Educational Psychology from the University at Albany, The State University of New York in 1996. Her dissertation "Why students succeed or fail: Theories of underachieving affluent college students" won the "Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award" from this same institution. She has been a frequent presenter at conferences sponsored by the College Reading & Learning Association. Her research and practical application articles appear in the Journal of College Reading & Learning and in the Journal of Developmental Education.

JoAnn has been named in Who's Who Among American Teachers & EducatorsTM, (11th Edition), Who's Who in America (51st Edition), Who's Who in the World (12th, 13th, 14th, & 15th Editions), Who's Who in the East (24th, 25th, & 26th Editions), Who's Who of American Women, (19th & 20th Editions) and Who's Who in American Education (4th & 5th Editions) for her work with college students.

JoAnn is certified as a Reading Specialist by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Texas State Board of Education. She is certified as a Teacher of Reading by the New York State Education Department and the State of New Jersey Department of Education.

JoAnn is a member of the College Reading & Learning Association.

About the Counselor

Mr. Glenn A. Usher specializes in vocational exploration through personality assessments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Interest Inventory. Glenn provides adolescents and adults ages 16 years and up with counseling on career and life adjustment issues. His experience includes college level individual and group counseling along with workshop presentations in Career Adjustment and Stress Reduction issues.

Glenn earned a Masters Degree in Counseling from West Chester University and has experience and insight with a multitude of career fields. He is a member of the Association of Career Professionals International.

Glenn has directly experienced many career fields having worked as a television reporter and show producer, homeland security/emergency management specialist, fire safety educator, professional firefighter and emergency medical technician. Glenn's experiences in multiple career fields bring a special awareness of how to creatively connect interest with potential in respect to career counseling.
